Azucena Rasilla, or “Azu” as most of her friends know her, knew she was born for the media world since her years in catholic school. Influenced by her mentor, a DJ at a local radio station, in third grade she realized she had voice and heart for journalism and entertainment.
As a young adult in high school she jumped to the beat and joined the Media Academy and took the range of The Aegis, the school’s newspaper. There she had the opportunity to cover the school events and share with her classmates her written work. High school came to an end and being an intelligent and social Latina as she is, she decided that college was the journey for her. The path she chose was journalism and radio/TV broadcasting. During the two years spent at Chabot College she was part of the award winning newspaper, The Spectator, where she served as news & entertainment editor. After having an important role in The Spectator, Azu joined the Chabot’s radio station team, KCRH (The East Bay Variety). While being part of KCRH she served as PSA Director, Music Director and also the host of her own radio show called Dangerously Alternative.
At the peak of her learning, Azu was invited by Generacion Radio, a Bay Area online radio station to host her own Monday through Friday night show; El Desvelon. This exposed her to an international online community, now loyal fans, from California to Argentina.
With her newspaper and online radio experience under her belt, Azucena became a member of the Bay Area crew Union Rocker TV as a music reporter for their weekly show. While with Union Rocker she has been able to add professional interviews with some well known Rock en Español, Rock Alternativo and other genre artists into her repertoire; Beto Cuevas (former vocalist of La Ley - Rock band from Chile), Aterciopelados (Colombian Rock Band), and growing native Californian Bands like Bang Data and La Santa Cecilia, just to name a few.
Azucena is always looking for a way to express herself and share with others. The Chronicles of Azu is now another way to share her passion for social issues, music, social events, and life. She will paint you a picture with words and invite you to join her.
